Painted Corset
Final Major Project - 2025

For my final major project, I created a painted 1890s corset where I drew ideas from my surrounding environment. The last two years of my studies, I committed to walking to university as opposed to travelling by bus, to be more sustainable, get more exercise in, and help slow life down in times when it felt really busy.
On the route from my student house to University, I walk past Charminster cemetery, a 19th-century cemetery that tends to flood in autumn and winter when the rainfall gets a bit too heavy. When the south end of the cemetery floods, ducks flock to the big puddle that forms. The ducks are most likely puddle ducks, also known as dabbler ducks.
The corset was drafted from Mandy Barrington Modern corset book, made from calico and painted with an acrylic and fabric medium ratio.
